Sorrow prepares you for joy

— Rumi

Why grief support for life transitions?

  • There’s not a lot of room to talk about grief when you experience it during moments when you’re “supposed” to feel one way and end up feeling another.

  • Grief support helps you map out the impact of the loss and its influence over you. Once you know the terrain, therapy can help you navigate and move through it.

  • The process of grieving can ultimately transport you from the life that you imagined to the life you actually have. The words and stories shared in therapy can often be the bridge.

The Goal

For many, the goal of therapy is to feel better. This means untangling old patterns and creating space for new ones. Working with grief is invaluable in this process, because it illuminates what you value. Grief outlines the shape of what you love.

The Process

With grief, one of the most helpful things you can do is to talk about it. So, you’ll come and talk and I’ll listen. Just the act of telling your story will begin to alter it. We’ll listen and pay attention to the storyline together. You’ll begin to notice your beliefs and assumptions and their influence over you. This new awareness will give you more room to explore what’s right with you and your life, versus what’s wrong with it. Your sense of what’s possible will begin to shift and you’ll start connecting the dots in your life in a new way.

The Outcome

The hope is that you’ll feel lighter, and find yourself moving between past, present and future with more ease and less pain. When you do get stuck, greater insight can offer you new ways to respond and move forward. With more clarity about what you value and love, you may experience a deeper sense of gratitude and acceptance. You’ll begin to feel at home in the life you have, and one day, notice that joy itself has crept back in.
